I received an email from an acquaintance a while back inviting me to his web page to read his latest works. I recently visited the site and began reading. The first chapter I read was rather dull and I had a difficult time keeping my mind on the story. I found myself skimming parts just to get to the good stuff. The author had failed to keep my attention.
Several chapters later I was lost with the story. I had to go back and reread several dull and over descriptive paragraphs just to figure out the connection between two characters. The little detail was tucked in a large paragraph describing a scene. He did a good job 'showing' the events taking place in the living room Mathieu Perreault Jets Jersey , but gee whiz, I didn't need to know every single thing that was in the room!
I realized that by skimming the tiresome text that I may be missing more important elements of the story. So, I started over. My mind was screaming, "ok Kyle Connor Jets Jersey , I see it, but get on with it!"
With that in mind, I sat down at my computer the other night to work on a story. I had my mind set on 'Show, Don't Tell'. I was determined to get it down right. I typed away Mark Scheifele Jets Jersey , but soon discovered that I was boring myself. I stared at the screen and knew that if I were bored then the reader definitely would be. I realized that I was getting carried away. I read back over my text thinking as a reader. I knew after reading the first three paragraphs that I did indeed go overboard. I deleted everything, but couldn't bring myself to start again.
I began thinking about 'showing' as a reader. I know when I'm reading a story I want it to capture my interest. I don't want to be bogged down with so many details. Sure, I want the author to show me, but don't waste my time or put me to sleep with a whole page of showing me one aspect. Show me some Drama!
I think trying to show the reader every detail all at once is a mistake. You don't have to show every single thing about a character or the setting. Give the reader a good visual and add to it if necessary. You can also slip details in with dialogue. Whatever works for the story to keep it moving is your best answer. Showing does dramatize Josh Morrissey Jets Jersey , but too much can be distracting. It can also slow the drama down. Best advice is to read your story out loud as if you were reading to an audience. Think about what details are important to the reader at that moment and which can wait until later. Think like a reader and not the author of your own piece.
Mention the name Bon Jovi to any girl and you are more than likely going to see smile on their face and hear a happy sigh to accompany it. For some reason, women of all ages continue to be drawn to both the band and the lead singer. If you want to get some brownie points with your girl, all you will need to do is get tickets to their next show.
The lead singer for Bon Jovi is the one and only Jon Bon Jovi. Time seems to have left him alone as he still has the good looks that he had when he first hit the stage over 25 years ago. He is one of those rare rock stars that has managed to stay grounded throughout his career and actually still lives in New Jersey to this day. He has made quite a name for himself over the past decades as not only a musician, but also as a businessman. He seems to have the golden touch in everything that he does.
Richie Sambora has been an integral part of the band over the years. His playing style is influenced by Eric Clapton Connor Hellebuyck Jets Jersey , Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and believe it or not, The Beatles. While he did grow in New Jersey, he has since moved out to California and has homes in both Los Angeles and Laguna Beach. While the band is obviously his main commitment Dustin Byfuglien Jets Jersey , he has been known to make the occasional appearance in movies and television shows.
Dave Bryan plays the keyboards for the band and is just another Jersey boy. Like Jon Bon Jovi, he has chosen to remain in the state of New Jersey for his main residence. Anyone listening to him play will easily recognize some of his past influences. Southside Johnny and the Jukes and Deep Purple are among his favorites and they reign through in his playing style.
The tempo of the group is held by none other than Tico Torres. He is an exceptional drummer, but that is hardly his only talent. Outside of the band, he has own line of clothing for children called the Rock Star Baby Collection. Aside from his clothing line success Nikolaj Ehlers Jets Jersey , he is also an accomplished painter, sculptor and is no slouch on the golf course.
The band is currently on The Circle Tour and it is being met with incredible success. Actually, many of the coming shows and VIP packages have already been sold out. The mass appeal of the band is still as strong today as it has been for years. It is no wonder, as the stage presence of Jon Bon Jovi has not dwindled one bit over the last 20 or so years.
The tour is full swing and will continue through the spring and summer of 2010. After a quick stop in Canada Mathieu Perreault Jersey , they come right back to the United States and will be performing in Philadelphia for a couple of shows on March 23-24. The dates are steady all the way through June, where they slow down just a bit to accommodate the travel (some international dates are mixed in) of the tour schedule. Tickets are going quick so if you plan to see them, it would be wise to check the calendar and lock up your tickets soon.
